The Yakima Valley contains a rich mix of Asian cultures from Japan, China, Korea, and Southeast Asia. The railroad has been essential in creating the Yakima we know today, and Chinese immigrants helped lay the first railroad tracks. Today residents of Asian descent are still involved in all aspects of Valley life. The Yakima Valley Museum is continually acquiring artifacts related to these cultures.

Visiting the Museum |
 |
|
Begin your study with a visit to the museum. Learn more about taking a tour of the museum through our tour information page, and contact the Education Office to schedule your visit.
Prepare each student to utilize one of the available worksheets during their visit. The museum has clipboards and pencils available upon request.
We suggest using the Object Worksheet when you visit the museum. Students first walk through the museum with a docent, and the group focuses on five selected objects. After the tour, each student chooses one object and completes the object worksheet about it. When they return to the classroom, they incorporate the ideas from the object worksheet into written essays.
